Dr. Walter Mulombo, the WHO Country Representative, made this announcement on Tuesday in Maiduguri while giving the Borno State Government vital supplies for health and nutrition.
The kits will also be given to 3,200 children under five who are hospitalized in the state's stabilization centers due to medical issues and severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
Mulombo clarified that the services will target people living in areas with limited access to healthcare facilities and security vulnerabilities, speaking on behalf of World Health Emergency team lead Dr. Ann Fortin.
"Over 3,200 children under five with SAM and medical complications under admission at the stabilization centers in Borno will be provided high-quality treatment services utilizing these SAM kits," he said. "The current donation targets explicitly reach over 484,740 vulnerable populations, especially those in security-compromised locations with limited access to healthcare services."
He stated that in 2023, the World Health Organization had assisted the state government in providing vital interventions to more than 1.6 million vulnerable individuals, such as teenage females, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and children aged 0 to 59 months.
Donated goods include nutritional supplements, life-saving medications, and medical supplies for treating and avoiding common childhood ailments and malnutrition, according to a HOFLI News correspondent.
